THIS is what many Penrith Panthers fans are crying out for – identity.

The club launched its 2017 jersey last night and Penrith general manager Phil Gould said that it could remain permanently.

“You know in 50 years here at Panthers we’ve had over 50 jerseys,” Mr Gould said.

“Now wouldn’t it be nice to have just one jersey for the next 50 years.

“I don’t know if that’s possible but this is where we need to start.”

The club asked its members what best captures the Panthers’ identity the most and what colours define the footy side.

The response was undeniable with keen fans seeking a return to the colours and design that were implemented in 1991 – the year the club claimed its first title.

The 1991 jersey can still be bought and is hugely popular with fans at matches.

The new design, including the shorts and socks, is similar to the one last used in 1996. Mr Gould said: “This is the jersey that will carry us forward.

“This is the jersey we will aspire to.”

Meanwhile, Penrith winger Josh Mansour has ruptured his ACL during a training session on Australia’s Four Nations tour in England.

Gould wants Mansour home as soon as possible for surgery on an injury that’s expected to keep the devestating ball runner out until the middle of next season.

“Unbelievably bad luck for our man Josh Mansour,” Gould said.

“We will bring him home and get his surgery done ASAP.”
