The sounds of Elvis comes to Penrith this weekend as award-winning tribute artist Gordon Hendricks embarks on his first Australian tour.
The UK performer has not had any formal training; his career stemmed from early karaoke sessions with friends.
He sang a couple of songs at a birthday party at a local club and was soon booked by the owner for a regular gig.
In 2005, he won a British talent show and his career as an Elvis impersonator was launched.
Competitions and tours followed over the years, and has led to his first Australian tour this month.
“I am looking forward to entertaining Australian audiences and touring all over the country,” he said.
“It is very humbling to come to the southern hemisphere for the first time and see all the fans who have bought tickets to see my show.”
His costumes are replicas of the originals and have been made by the same Charleston company who made Elvis’. Hendricks plans to bring “a complete evening of Elvis magic” for his Penrith audience.
“We will be bringing a show that takes the audience on a fabulous journey through Elvis’ early years through the 68 Special, Elvis on Tour years and then the Vegas years which features all of Elvis’ great songs,” he said.
Hendricks will perform at Panthers Penrith at 3pm on January 27, followed by shows at Darling Harbour, Newcastle and Chatswood.
