THE biggest discovery in chocolate in 80 years has arrived in Penrith, making a show-stopping entrance.
San Churro restaurants around the country have introduced ruby chocolate - the world’s fourth type of chocolate - to their menu, available with their signature churros or as chocolate bars or truffles.
Ruby chocolate was first discovered by Belgian-Swiss chocolate company Callebaut and was released last year.
The “ruby bean” - existing cocoa bean varieties that can be processed into ruby chocolate - grows in Costa Rica and the Ivory Coast and is the second most rich cocoa variety after dark chocolate.
The chocolate has a natural pink hue and has a fruity flavour and joins milk, dark and white as the fourth type of chocolate.
All San Churro restaurants now offer ruby chocolate on their menu, but for the ultimate chocolate connoisseurs there is only one choice: the Real Ruby Chocolate Experience.
Launched on September 10, the experience begins with an audio-led chocolate tasting of all four types; white, ruby, milk and dark.
Then comes the dessert - a show-stopping creation of San Churro’s signature churros given the royal ruby treatment.
Penrith is one of only six San Churros in Sydney that offer the experience and store manager Linden Arkle said the dessert finale “features the chocolate in the best way”.
“Everyone has that ‘Woah’ reaction,” he said.
“It’s very much a performance on our behalf.”
The Real Ruby Chocolate Experience is available on selected dates at San Churros Penrith for the next three months.
