Riverlands Physical Culture Club’s Wendy Lynch ends long drought for big win

She’s been doing it since she was a toddler but Wendy Lynch has never lost her love for this sport - or her competitive drive.

It was a long time between drinks for Wendy Lynch but worth the wait when she won her first major physical culture event in almost two decades.

The Glenmore mother-of-two recently competed at the Western Zone Physical Culture Grand Final, winning first place in her age group and the prestigious overall Grand Champion award.

“It’s a real honour to come first in my section and it was the first time since 2001,” said Lynch, who has previously undergone two knee reconstructions and balances work and raising a family with her love of Physical Culture.

“I got the senior champion in my age and grade and then the Grand Champion of the year.

“I was just so I overwhelmed.

“To be the No.1 physical culture girl for 2019, it just takes my breath away to achieve it.

“Our Riverlands club also won club champion this year as well. That was the icing on the cake.’’

A mix of dancing, stretching and ballet techniques, Lynch said she has found physical culture addictive most of her life.

“It’s an addictive sport once you are surrounded by all these amazing women,” she said.

“It’s low impact style dancing. We perform on a stage. You build your flexibility and stretch, you do kicks, splits, balances.

“It caters to all age groups and you are graded to your experience.”

Lynch said there is no reason to retire from the sport as there is now age limit.

“Most of the girls I do it with I have known since we were three, five, 10, they are best friends,” she said.

“It’s great to do something healthy for our minds and bodies.”

Lynch, 36, said her daughters Vivienne, 4, and Anneliese, 2, look to follow in her footsteps.

“Three are both just starting physie,’’ said Lynch.

“I’ve been doing it since I was three-years-old.

“I said to mum, who would have imaged I would still be doing it.’’

“My mum sat at all those competitions for all those years. It took a lot of heart and patience for her to do it.’’
