Rebels bikie Jamie Saliba in legal win after cop death threat

Rebels bikie Jamie Saliba was recorded saying it was a case of “sue the c***ts or kill (the detective)” just days after one of his mates was murdered. But now Saliba has had his conviction set aside on appeal.

“I will get out and live at my Nan’s and then sue the c**ts, or kill (the detective), either one.”

Those were the words that led to Rebels bikie Jamie Saliba being charged by Strike Force Raptor with threatening to kill a serving NSW Police officer last year.

However, the District Court has accepted the heavily-tattooed bikie was just “letting off steam” after learning his mate was murdered just four days prior.

Saliba, who is a member of the gang’s Penrith chapter, is celebrating a legal win this week after having the conviction set aside.

The comments were made while in custody where his phone calls to girlfriend Ashlei Rose were being recorded by homicide detectives investigating the murder case of Michael Davey, Saliba’s friend and fellow Rebels member.

“That c**t is the weakest piece of s**t. I went off, I went f****n’ crazy, he’s a f*****g mouth that c**t,’’ he said of the detective in one exchange.

The calls were then forwarded to the officer in question, who became conscious of being followed to and from work and feared for his family’s safety, according to his statement tendered to the court.

The threats caused such fear that the officer was scared even outside of work when out with his family.

Saliba’s legal team submitted there was an “air of ridiculousness or flippant nature” about the remarks.

“They will probably charge me with intimidation, do it,” he was heard to have said.

“Intimidation my ass, you torment a bloke, you torment his wife and his mother-in-law.

“You go to my wife’s house at 10.30 at night, my best mate was murdered four days ago and you’ve been warned by my lawyer to not come near me.”

The Parramatta District Court heard the conversations were “a throwaway line” and were never intended to be passed onto the cop in a bid to intimidate him.

The convictions were set aside on Tuesday.
