Police investigating after Emu Plains aquarium set on fire

Nepean police are investigating a suspicious fire and vandalism oft Ofishal Pet Shop in Emu Plains which saw thousands of tropical and freshwater fish killed.

Tropical and freshwater fish valued at thousands of dollars have died after the Ofishal pet shop in Emu Plains was vandalised last night.

Ten crews and duty commander from Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the Great Western Highway about 9.45pm on Monday after reports an aquarium was on fire.

The fire was brought under control about 10.45pm and extinguished the blaze by 11.30pm.

A fire and rescue spokeswoman said about “10 per cent of the store was damaged by fire”.

When the scene was inspected, Nepean police found the business had been broken into and dozens of fish tanks had been smashed, killing hundreds of exotic and pet fish.

Police have been told one tank alone contained fish valued at $10,000.

Nepean police have established a crime scene as they investigate further.
