Three police have been injured and allegedly threatened with a makeshift flamethrower during a stand-off with a man in Penrith this morning.

It’s alleged a 35-year-old man threatened police with flames from an aerosol can and lighter when they were called to an alleged break and enter at a home in Dent St just before 5.30am on July 12.

Police say the man barricaded himself into the property and blocked police from entering.

He allegedly attempted to set items on fire and continued to behave erratically, prompting further emergency crews to be called to the scene.

The man allegedly scaled a balcony to a neighbouring property and fled the scene. A short chase followed and the man was arrested a short time later on Mulgoa Rd.

Three officers were injured during the incident after being exposed to the flames and allegedly being assaulted during the man’s arrest.

It’s alleged one officer sustained a red and swollen arm, another received cuts to his hand and the third was punched in the chest.

The 35-year-old man was taken hospital with a finger injury.

He was charged with four counts of assaulting police, one count of resisitng police and another of destroying property.

He was refused bail and was expected to appear at Penrith Local Court today.
