The Penrith area could soon have two private hospitals - just blocks from each other - if plans for a second facility are approved.

A proposal for a $29.9 million Kingswood Private Hospital, located on Orth St, have been lodged with Penrith Council.

The five-storey building would consist of 86 rooms – 38 rooms for mental health patients and 48 for physical rehabilitation.

The ground floor would also feature health consulting rooms, a physio gym, a hydrotherapy pool, a commercial kitchen and a cafe.

It would be complimentary to Nepean Private Hospital, which has surgical and maternity services.

According to documents lodged by Polaris Property Group, the private hospital would be “designed to provide subacute health care specialising in rehabilitation and mental health services for people who are not seriously ill but need support to regain their ability to carry out normal daily activities”.

Rehabilitation services would include hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, wellness therapy, speech therapy, dietetics, counselling support and mental health services.

The site would also feature two basement levels with a total of 65 carparking spaces.

Three existing houses (39-43) on Orth St would be demolished to make room for the development, and 19 trees would also be removed.

Polaris Property Group also attempted to purchase 45 Orth St, which is currently a medical clinic, but was unsuccessful.

If approved, the development would form part of an expansion of the nepean health precinct which includes the new Nepean Health Hub on Parker St.

The hub was approved by the Western Sydney Planning Panel in February, 2019, and officially began construction in November.

Nepean Hospital is also undergoing a revamp, with a 14-storey tower currently under construction.

Polaris Property Group has been contacted for comment.
