One of western Sydney’s most popular cafes has exciting plans to expand with a new riverside project which will include a cafe, restaurant, and bakery as well as a petting zoo for the kids.

One of Penrith’s most popular cafes has grand plans to expand its reach and bring more dining options as well as the farmyard to the shores of the Nepean River.

Percy Plunkett, in the Nepean Centro complex, unveiled signage and fencing at the site of a proposed new cafe/bakery development on Tench Ave, Jamisontown, last week.

However, the project is still waiting for official approval from Penrith Council who are waiting on the developers to provide more information.

The development, which had a working name of ‘Orange Fields’ during the early stages of the development application, would see a cafe, restaurant, and bakery built on a block of land between two residential lots if approved.

There would also be a playground and petting zoo as entertainment for children, as well as a fresh vegetable garden.

The restaurant/cafe would be built from the existing brick building on the land, with some additions to create an outdoor dining area, according to planning documents, which also includes an outdoor dining pavilion, a wood-fired pizza hut, and a farmer’s co-op pavilion.

A watertank is also planned for the development.

The new facility would be open from 7am to 9pm daily under development application plans before the council, with opening hours extended to midnight on Friday and Saturday for pre-booked events such as weddings or corporate functions.

Percy Plunkett owner Phillip Hallani said the name of the new restaurant was still to be confirmed, but said he wouldn’t have considered expanding without the support of the community.

“The support has been amazing, and we knew we wanted to do something really special,” he said.

“It’ll be completely different to Percy’s, but we’ll keep a similar feel.

“We want to showcase Penrith, and we believe this will bring tourism.”

Mr Hallani said he hoped to open the new project early next year.

“We never wanted to open in the city, we want the west and Penrith to be recognised,” he said.

“We’re sick of Penrith being the underdogs all the time, we want to showcase how special it is.

“We hope that when we open we’ll attract more good restaurants to come out.”

Award-winning designer Killing Matt Woods has been tasked with the interior design of the new cafe, the same designer who worked on Percy Plunkett three years ago.

The new project will also be built out of an existing building, with no plans to knock down the current brick building on the site, if the council gives it the tick of approval.

The owners of Percy Plunkett and Killing Matt Woods have been contacted for comment.
