More apartments could be built on Penrith’s High St in the near future under plans lodged with Penrith Council.
Nor’Side Investments has applied to build a mixed-use development across the road from Westfield Penrith at a cost of just over $15 million.
The precinct would include a two-storey and a five-storey tower with 41 residential apartments.
It would also include both private and communal open-space areas, and commercial space on the ground floor.
A basement parking space would include spots for residents, visitors, and commercial tenants.
A planner from Caladines Town Planning, on behalf of Nor’Side Investments, said the proposal would help “reinvigorate the streetscape” of the area.
“The development will provide a diverse range of housing opportunities within the Penrith LGA that is also within walking distance of high-frequency public transport, community facilities, large shopping hubs and employment opportunities,” they said.
“The proposal will deliver a contemporary architectural design which will reinvigorate the streetscape and surrounding area and will make a positive contribution to the Penrith CBD.”
The planned apartments would be built almost next door to two high-rise apartment buildings planned for High St.
Penway Place, opposite the council chambers, is planned to rise 37 storeys in the air, while another 46-storey building is planned in a vacant lot across from the Joan Sutherland Peforming Arts Centre.
Another 850 apartments are planned in Panthers East Side Quarter less than a kilometre away from the proposal.
