THE Penrith Panthers will chase a third consecutive win as they take on the New Zealand Warriors tomorrow afternoon at Mt Smart Stadium.

Early this week, Panthers’ skipper Matt Moylan said the side, which has pulled together ahead of the finals, is preparing for a tough match.

“We know what type of footy they are capable of and we are going to have to put in another performance like we did on Friday — and a good defensive performance — knowing what sort of attack they’ve got,” Moylan said.

The captain felt the team played their “most consistent” game of the season during their 31-12 defeat over the Brisbane Broncos in last week’s round 20 clash, which was also lock Trent Merrin’s 150th game.

“(It is) something we’re going to have to keep doing if we want to be competitive in the back end of the year,” Moylan said.

When asked by the Penrith Press how the squad has managed to offset a flow of injuries, the fast-footed fullback, who got over the line last week to score four points, said: “It says something about the club here and what we are building.”

The team, in a crucial spot on the ladder, plan to keep tightening their defence, according to current five-eight Bryce Cartwright.

The 21-year-old told the Penrith Press he has enjoyed playing in the halves.

“I’m loving my new challenge ... it has taken some time to get used to but I am slowly getting there, and I have a lot of help here,” Cartwright said.

“Whenever I am stuck on the field I just look to probably Peter Wallace or Matty Moylan out the back, and they help me out a lot.”

Tomorrow’s game comes after news Merrin and hooker Peter Wallace extended their Panthers contracts.

Merrin, 26, is signed until the end of the 2020 season while Wallace, 30, will remain with the Panthers until the end of 2018.
