Two roundabouts on Jamison Rd could be removed under council plans to improve roads in Penrith City.

Penrith Council received more than $13 million in funding from the Federal Government as part of the third round of the $200 million Local Roads Package.

Penrith councillors will vote on whether to accept the funding and go ahead with the projects during next Monday’s meeting.

That money would be used for three planned projects in Penrith, Jamisontown and Claremont Meadows.

The first project is a new roundabout at White Cedar Ave and Caddens Rd, Claremont Meadows, as well as a seagull intersection and pedestrian refuge at Silkwood Rd and Caddens Rd.

A seagull intersection is a type of three-way intersection where a series of right-turn lanes and sliplanes make sure through traffic on the main arterial is never interrupted.

The project has a construction cost of just under $12 million.

The second project is a study of Coreen Ave and intersections to consider efficiency improvements.

The project is in investigation and design phase, which is expected to cost just over $700,000.

The third stage is a study to replace existing roundabouts with signalised intersections at Jamison Rd/Station St and Jamison Rd/Woodriff St.

Council has assigned funding of just over $500,000 for the project.
