Opposition Leader declares Labor will win back Penrith in 2023
Newly elected Opposition Leader Jodi McKay visited Penrith today and declared Labor will win back the seat of Penrith at the 2023 election.
Newly elected Opposition Leader Jodi McKay says winning the seat of Penrith back will be vital to Labor winning the 2023 election.
In her first public visit since announcing her Shadow Cabinet yesterday, Ms McKay took to Westfield in Penrith to speak to the people. The Member for Strathfield said western Sydney is a major focus for her and Labor and she also put the sitting Member for Penrith on notice.
“We wanted to make sure that we are recognising Western Sydney, as it is an area that has always been important to Labor and will be important going forward,” Ms McKay said.
“Here today we want to put Stuart Ayres on notice that we will be winning this seat in 2023.”
After losing a tight election in the seat of Penrith in March, Ms McKay is already starting to plan how to turn the result around in four years’ time.
“We were disappointed that we didn’t win Penrith, but we believe that in 2023 we will win and it has always been such an important part of the seats we need to win government
“We need to show great respect to western Sydney and we need good candidates here and have a strong focus on infrastructure.”
The Labor Leader also took the opportunity to congratulate Londonerry MP Prue Car on her “massive promotion” to Shadow Minister for Education.
Ms Car said she is excited by the new role and says she will use her personal experience as a mother to get the best results for schools in the area.
“I am the mum of a primary aged child and I am going to be hitting the ground running talking to parents and teachers,” Ms Car said.
“This area is full of wonderful public schools and public schools that are in great need, so I will be asking them first up what their issues are and getting straight to work on what Labor’s vision is.”
