Mulgoa will see four candidates vie for the seat. Incumbent Liberal MP Tanya Davies is standing for re-election and will face her biggest challenge against Penrith councillor and Labor candidate Todd Carney. Ms Davies is favourite to win at $1.20 while the odds put Mr Carney at $4.00

Here is a look at the candidates.

NAME: Todd Carney

PARTY: NSW Labor

A BIT ABOUT YOU:

I am not another career politician; I’m a diesel mechanic by trade. I’m Western Sydney

born and raised, and now my wife and I are raising our family in Glenmore Park. In

my family, we know the problems our community face everyday with traffic and train

delays, long hospital wait times and badly maintained local schools, because we live

with them too.

I’m tired of seeing our area ignored by the Government; I’m running to make sure

Western Sydney gets our fair share.

YOUR POLITICAL BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

I currently serve as a Penrith Councillor, where I have fought to stop the proposed

incinerator, to stop the proposed cemetery at Wallacia, and to stop the Liberals from

cutting the wages and conditions of our local garbos.

TOP THREE PRIORITIES/ISSUES IN YOUR ELECTORATE:

For me, my three top priorities are:

• Stopping this Liberal Government’s $2.2 billion stadium splurge, and

instead investing that money into our local schools and hospitals;

• Bringing back the M4 Cashback to save commuters up to $2,200 a year;

and

• Once and for all banning the proposed toxic waste incinerator from our

ever being built in our community.

NAME: Tanya Davies

PARTY: Liberal

A BIT ABOUT YOU:

“I am raising my two young children with my husband Mark, in western Sydney.

“Before entering public service I worked as a physiotherapist, executive manager, TAFE trainer and ran my own small business.

I am so proud of the significant improvements I have delivered for my community and for the generations to come. But there is still so much more to do. I hope to receive the support of the community at this State Election to continue to deliver for families and the community across Mulgoa.

YOUR POLITICAL BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

I was elected to Penrith City Council in 2008. I began serving my community as a local councillor in 2008 and moved into State politics in 2011.

Record investment across health, schools, roads, rail, employment opportunities and taking the pressure off families has all been possible because the NSW Liberal Government is focused on the community. It is only our Liberal government that has paid off Labor’s debt, driven unemployment to a record low and delivering a quality lifestyle for communities across our state.

TOP THREE PRIORITIES/ISSUES IN YOUR ELECTORATE:

1. Roads: Upgrade Mulgoa and Mamre Roads and the M4 westbound on ramp at Roper Rd

2. $1.0 billion Nepean Hospital Redevelopment

3. Performing Arts & Learning Centre at Glenmore Park High School

NAME: Rob Shield

PARTY: The Greens

A BIT ABOUT YOU:

“I lived in Newcastle for 25 years and trained as a Metallurgist with BHP Co Ltd in Newcastle until 1985 when I was retrenched due to the decline of steelmaking in Australia.

“I moved to Sydney and have worked in warehousing and logistics, and in IT and I’m currently employed as a mobile service technician.

YOUR POLITICAL BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

I joined the Greens in 2013 and have been a keen volunteer in local, state and federal campaigns for the past 10 years. I stood as a candidate for local council and continue to work closely with our councillors.

TOP THREE PRIORITIES/ISSUES IN YOUR ELECTORATE:

Fighting climate change is a priority of The Greens in every electorate.

Locally, we need better access to renewable powered public transport to reduce road congestion and CO2. Kids used to catch the bus to school — they shouldn’t need to be driven.

We need to restore quality vocational training and education through properly funding TAFE colleges. Not every school leaver wants to go to university, so we need incentives to provide apprenticeships to grow our next generation of tradespeople and support them with quality learning environments.

We can only achieve the above by cleaning up politics — reforming donation laws and strengthening ICAC.

NAME: Jessie Bijok

PARTY: Sustainable Australia

A BIT ABOUT YOU:

I was born in Broken Hill and spent most of my life living in the south west of Sydney. I have a degree in business and have been working in manufacturing based industries.

TOP THREE PRIORITIES/ISSUES IN YOUR ELECTORATE:

1. State of governance in NSW

2. Overdevelopment and overpopulation

3. Environment
