Melbourne Storm star Shawn Blore has denied an allegation of affray, alongside his brother Dean, following an alleged fight in Sydney’s CBD.
Dean, 25, fronted Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, while NRL star Shawn, 24, was excused from appearing as the pair both pleaded not guilty to a single affray charge.
The brothers were represented by barrister Eugene Renard, who entered the pleas and asked for brief service orders.
Police allege in court documents the pair used unlawful violence towards Naaman Mikhael and that “a person of reasonable firmness, if present at the scene, would have feared for their safety” between 2am and 3am on July 8 in Sydney.
According to a NSW Police statement, three men were charged with affray after an alleged fight on Hunter St, Sydney.
Police made inquiries into the alleged incident after receiving a report on July 11, with a 31-year-old charged the following day.
Two other men attended Day Street Police Station on July 27, when they were each charged with the same offence.
Mr Renard asked the registrar on Wednesday if both Shawn and Dean Blore could be excused on the next occasion, which was accepted, with the matter adjourned to October 16.
After their arrests on July 27, the brothers were released on bail and banned from committing offences or consuming alcohol in public places.
In a statement, the Storm indicated it had informed the NRL Integrity Unit “at the time of” the alleged incident.
“Both (Shawn) Blore and the club have co-operated with NSW Police with their investigations throughout,” the club said.
“As the matter is before the courts, the club will make no further comment.”
The NRL has also been contacted for comment.
Shawn made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in 2020, playing 33 times before signing a three-year deal with the Storm as part of a swap with Justin Olam.
The second-row has since played 20 times for his new club and has helped the Storm secure this year’s minor premiership.
Before making his NRL debut, the 24-year-old was a junior at the Penrith Panthers before signing with the Tigers.
His brother Dean, who played for St George Illawarra Dragons in the NSW Cup as a five-eighth in 2022, represented Samoa in the 2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s.
Back in 2018 the brothers faced off against each other in a Trans-Tasman Test, when Shawn featured for the junior Kangaroos and Dean for the junior Kiwis.
The pair had just played together for the Panthers in the 2018 Jersey Flegg Cup grand final.
