A man has been rushed to hospital with serious burns after an e-bike caught fire at a property in Sydney’s west early on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to a property in Glossop St, North St Marys about 4am on Monday to reports of an e-bike on fire.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said a man in his 60s was found with burns to his face, torso, legs and arms.

He was taken to Concord Hospital in a serious condition.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said the triple-0 call reported explosions and fire at the property and firefighters arrived to find the bike alight.

They removed the bike’s lithium-ion battery and submerged it in water to stop it from reigniting.

An investigation is now under way to establish the cause of the blaze and whether the bike had been modified.

FRNSW are urging the community to be vigilant with lithium-ion battery products, including ensuring they purchase reputable products, charge and recycle them safely, don’t charge them near flammable materials and never “mix and match” components.
