Nepean River: Kayaker dies at Yarramundi

A kayaker has died after he was seen yelling for help before disappearing beneath the water on the Nepean River.

A man has died after he was heard screaming for help while kayaking on the Nepean River before going missing.

Rescue crews were called to help about 1.20pm at Yarramundi on Thursday, and shortly after found his kayak.

Five hours later the 36-year-old man’s body was by police divers.

Police said a witness had reported the man yelling from a kayak.

The witness said the man then disappeared under the water and was not seen again.

Officers from the Hawkesbury Police Area Command, with the assistance of PolAir, State Emergency Services, Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW, commenced a search for the man.

Police divers later joined the search.

A brief will be prepared for the Coroner.
