The $450 million stage two redevelopment of Penrith’s Nepean Hospital — currently on exhibition for public comment with NSW Planning’s Major Projects — will see the construction of an 11-storey tower, connecting to the recently-completed stage one tower.

Planners for the Health infrastructure project said the proposal will also see the inclusion of new medical imaging facilities, radiology, as well as a new dialysis and renal inpatient unit.

“The need for the development is directly related to the continuing improvement of the quality, and the range, of health services provided at Nepean Hospital and within the Nepean Blue Mountains LHD,” a Health Infrastructure planner said.

“The key drivers for the development (include) meeting the future health care needs of the western Sydney, significant population growth and demographic change, changing population health issues, and socio-economic risk factors.

“The delivery of the Stage two Redevelopment will futureproof capacity at the hospital to cater for population growth, future demand for services, and changed clinical and health needs whilst also providing a modern fit-for-purpose health facility.
