Plans for a massive $613 million commercial precinct on the banks of the Nepean River have been given the green light by the NSW Government.

On Friday, July 10, the Planning Department issued approval to rezone land for the Nepean Business Park in Penrith to employment and environment, allowing the major commercial precinct to be one step closer to opening to businesses — resulting in more than 18,000 jobs.

Precinct Capital project director Dylan Baudinet said the government’s tick of approval would inject hundreds of millions of dollars into the Western Sydney economy every year.

“Approved amendments... give the go ahead to use the land for a business park which includes a vital link to the Great River Walk — an environmentally-friendly initiative we will contribute to the community,” he said.

Work to rehabilitate the site was started earlier this year, with further approvals required to allow subdivision and construction to occur.

The approval comes after the Penrith Press revealed Western Sydney Business Chamber executive director David Borger called for the project to be fast-tracked.

“There is no doubt that the public benefit will be enormous, which include the benefits to the local economy and employment,” Mr Borger said.

The project is earmarked to generate more than 18,000 jobs during construction and inject $1.9 billion to the local economy.

The Nepean Business Park will create 18,450 direct and indirect jobs during construction and when operational and generate $1.95B in economic activity during construction.

Some 3,897 permanent jobs will be created on completion of the business park complex to deliver $295M in wages annually.
