A $2.8 billion industrial precinct has been given the green light by the NSW Government under its fast track development scheme.
The major industrial development by Mirvac — dubbed the Mamre Rd Precinct — in Kemps Creek is a massive 850 hectare development expected to create more than 17,000 jobs and deliver new public spaces and conservation areas surrounding the estate.
Planning Minister Rob Stokes said the billion-dollar development was one of 12 key precinct surrounding the Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
“Not only does this rezoning secure much-needed productive industrial land, it also safeguards critical environmental areas and provides some fantastic new public spaces for the future residents of the Western Parkland City,” Mr Stokes said.
While Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the approval meant Western Sydney was a “global hub for logistics and advanced manufacturing”.
“This land release will provide opportunities for international and domestic businesses to invest in Western Sydney, enabling major warehousing, logistics, manufacturing and circular economy operations to be established,” she said.
“It will also bring a huge jobs boost to the region, creating opportunities for more than 5,200 jobs during the construction phase alone.”
Plans for the massive estate include the creation of a new warehousing industrial hub surrounded by 50 hectares of open space, recreational areas and cycling and walking tracks.
More than 80 submissions were made for and against the development, which is bounded by Luddenham, Mt Vernon and Horsley Park.
Jobs Minister Stuart Ayres said the rezoning would capitalise on: local, regional and overseas markets” with its connection to the Aerotropolis.
The first industrial estates for the Mamre Road Precinct are expected to be occupied from mid-2021.
