Llandilo: Man flown to hospital with ‘severe’ burns after BBQ fire on Australia Day

A man was flown to hospital after a barbecue fire northwest of Sydney on Australia Day, with initial reports a gas cylinder caught on fire. Here’s the latest.

A man in his 50s was flown to hospital suffering severe burns after barbecue fire on Australia Day.

Firefighters and paramedics were called to a residential property off Barnes Rd in Llandilo around 12.45pm on Sunday to reports of a barbecue fire.

A Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) spokesman said the person who called emergency services stated a gas cylinder in the barbecue had caught fire, and burned the man’s legs, ankles and knees.

The spokesman described the man as “severely burned” and said he was placed in a cold shower immediately after the incident while awaiting emergency services.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics arrived on the scene just after 1pm and a CareFlight helicopter was called.

The man was flown to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
