Lisa Froome caught drug driving with children in car

A 36-year-old had two children in the back of her car when she was found to be driving with cannabis and meth in her system.

A woman was caught driving with meth and cannabis in her system while she had two children under five in the back of her car.

Lisa Margaret Froome, 36, from Penrith, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle with an illicit drug present in her blood in Penrith Local Court last week.

The court heard it was her second similar offence, with her last in court in November 2018.

Lisa Froome escaped without conviction after driving under the influence of drugs with children in the car.

About 10am on February 3, Froome’s red Mazda was pulled over at a stationary police testing site on Andrews Rd.

Froome was driving with two children under the age of 5 in the rear of the vehicle, according to court documents.

She did a breath test that returned a negative result. However, when she did an oral fluid test her results returned positive for methamphetamine.

Froome was arrested and taken to a nearby mobile breath testing bus for a secondary oral fluid test where she was questioned.

This time the sample returned a positive result to methylamphetamine.

The rest of the sample was taken to a lab and returned a result of positive to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (a principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis) and methamphetamine.

Froome was issued with a 24 hour prohibition from driving.

Magistrate James Gibson said he was concerned this was Froome’s second offence in five years and said he needed to send a community message for compliance with driving legislature.

“There is a real need to comply with legislation and ensure there is no driving after drug use,” he said.

Froome escaped without a conviction.

She was sentenced to a six month Conditional Release Order expiring in April 2022.
