Lendlease has celebrated the almost 6000 people who have gained employment through its Skilling and Employment Centre at St Marys.

Since its beginning in 2005, the centre has helped address the growing demand for employment in Penrith City and Blacktown by supporting job seekers in enhancing their job prospects.

The centre has helped almost 6000 people achieve employment at a rate of more than one new job a day.

Over the last year, 52 per cent of jobs are in the construction industry, 32 per cent are females, and 63 per cent gained employment within 10 kilometres of the Penrith LGA.

Nikki Basargin is one of the 6000 that have received training at the centre.

“I discovered Lendlease skilling and employment online shortly after deciding to change career paths to electrotechnology,” she said.

“The centre was really helpful in getting me in the right direction and helping me achieve a successful job interview.

“I’ve been an electrical apprentice for more than a year now, and the majority of my work is quite local, however I do enjoy the few work places that aren’t.

“I definitely will recommend this service to others, as my experience with them was better than any other I’ve received.”

Lendlease is now focused on micro-credentialing, a modern and flexible system that allows students to undergo necessary training and gain skills quickly to work across several jobs required for the development of Western Sydney Airport.

“The NSW Government is spending $93 billion in infrastructure over the next decade, and Western Sydney is receiving a lot of this investment,” NSW Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education, Geoff Lee, said.

“It’s never been more important to boost our construction workforce.”

Lendlease Head of Development, NSW, Neil Arckless said the investment in Western Sydney was having a “flow-on effect of more jobs for local people”.

“Over the last year alone, our centre at St Marys has helped and supported more than 500 western Sydney jobseekers to gain employment, a new record for the centre,” he said.

“The success of the centre reveals the ongoing need for training in western Sydney, particularly with the construction of the new Western Sydney Airport.”
