Legendary black panther ‘spotted’ in Blue Mountains

WATCH the video and judge for yourself. Belinda Baker and Steve Muiser say they’ve filmed the legendary Blue Mountains panther roaming west of Blackheath describing it as a “large, black cat-like creature, five times bigger” than an average feral moggy.

Black panther ‘sighting’

A MEGALONG Valley couple claim to have spotted the legendary black panther roaming the hills of Kanimbla near the Cox River. And they have video.

Belinda Baker and her partner Steve Muiser, a prison officer at Lithgow, were having a look a large development being built near their home on Monday about 2.30pm when they spotted a large black catlike creature sitting on the land next to it.

“We went to check out the development,” Mr Muiser said.

“When we turned around to leave we just saw it sitting there on the land adjacent to where the construction was.”

“We observed it for about 20 minutes.”

Mr Muiser who has extensive experience shooting pests around his land said he sees wild cats all the time.

“We were approximately 100-150 metres away.

“That’s what really got our attention. I have shot plenty of pests — I’ve got a pretty good idea of size and distances. I would say it was five times bigger than your average feral cat.”

Mr Muiser believes the cat would have been about 1.5m long and upwards of 30kg in weight.

“It’s either a feral cat that’s found some steroids and grown to or it’s a panther.”

“The way it moved was different to domestic and feral cats. It had like a swagger.”

This sighting is not the only reason, Mr Muiser and his partner believe the panther exists.

“We actually lease our property to a grazier,” he said. “We’ve found some of the cattle with their throats cut out. Kangaroos that have been taken apart.”

Is he convinced?

“Absolutely. We can take pictures and film of feral cats all day. This was something I’ve never seen before.”
