Kingswood Hotel: $70m plans for Great Western Highway site

Locals could be saying sayonara to the Kingswood Hotel as we know it, in favour of two modern multistorey buildings in a project that tallies up to almost $70 million.

A much-loved local hotel could be getting a $70m new home.

Documents have been revealed showing a $70 million development proposed for where the Kingswood Hotel currently stands.

The plans are for 180 Great Western Highway, Kingswood and 26 Roger Street, which is a vacant L-shaped block behind the well-known Indian supermarket and Domino’s.

The proposed development will result in the temporary relocation of the existing Kingswood Hotel to 26 Roger Street while the site at 180 Great Western Highway is built.

The Kingswood development will be overseen by Iris Hotel Group which runs a number of metropolitan hotels across the country.

When construction of the Great Western Highway building is complete, the Kingswood Hotel will relocate to its purpose built space within it.

If the proposal is accepted, there will be two buildings put up.

The new seven story building on the Great Western Highway will be apartment building with three basement levels for parking.

The new space for the Kingswood Hotel on the ground floor will have a bistro, sports bar, VIP gaming lounge.

On top there will be 79 residential units with a common garden area and communal rooftop.

At 26 Roger St, there will be a new five-storey hotel and apartment building with two basement levels for parking.

The building will have ground floor retail space.

This space will temporarily accommodate the Kingswood Hotel, with the space later to be converted into a stand-alone bottle shop.

It will also have 52 units, communal open space and a rooftop garden.

While the hotel and bottle shop will be temporarily relocated, the proposal doesn’t make any changes to the trading hours which are 9am to 3am Monday to Saturday and 10am to 10pm on Sunday,

The bottle shop will operate from 9am to midnight Monday to Saturday and 10am to 10pm on Sunday.
