Keren Rambow: Penrith schoolgirl Azahlia Stevenson mentored by powerful woman in aviation

A western Sydney schoolgirl’s dreams of becoming an aeronautical engineer are being helped along by her mentorship with one of Australia’s most powerful women in aviation.

She might be young but Azahlia Stevenson already has sky-high plans for her future.

The 17-year-old Year 11 student from Caroline Chisolm has dreams of becoming an aeronautical engineer, and has been paired with one of Australia’s premier women in aviation as part of a program provided by Western Sydney Women.

Keren Rambow, General Electric’s regional general manager of sales for the South Asia Pacific, has taken Azahlia under her wing.

Azahlia said she wanted to do her aeronautical engineering study at the Australian Defence Force Academy and is prepared to tackle this gruelling challenge head on.

“I love to build things, break things apart and analyse them,” she said.

“And I just love planes.”

Ms Rambow is also in charge of General Electric’s Aviation Business in Australia and New Zealand.

She took an interest in Azahlia’s goals due to the fact she’d studied at ADFA to begin her career.

However, Ms Rambow said she had been honest with Azahlia about the ADFA process and experience to make sure she understands what’s involved, and to make sure she’s ready.

She has also put Azahlia in touch with someone in their first year at ADFA so he can run her through his personal experiences.

During her time with GE, she has supported Qantas, Jetstar, and Rex in Australia, and successfully led the Fiji Airways Boeing 737 MAX campaign.

Prior to her time with GE, she ran her own business, Pacific Aerospace Consulting, out of San Diego, which provided professional services to the Australian and American governments.
