Joel Mark Healy, 35, of Ellen Grove in Queensland, did not apply for bail before Magistrate Alex Mijovich at Penrith Local Court during a brief first mention on Thursday.
Police allege Queensland man Mark Joel Healy, 35, put three cyclists in hospital and smashed five cars in eight separate crashes across Sydney after he was pulled over in a grey Holden Equinox on the M1 at Bar Point at 8.20am on July 19, where he had his license suspended and was issued an infringement notice for speeding by more than 45km/h.
They allege Healy was involved in no less than eight hit-and-run incidents around Sydney’s north shore and inner suburbs over the next 24 hours.
Police will allege Healy drove to the Pacific Hwy, Lindfield, where he hit cyclist Evan Oppen at about 9.10am, causing five fractured ribs and a fractured collarbone.
About five minutes later, police allege Healy hit another cyclist, Michael Baulch, on the Pacific Highway in Roseville, causing a deep laceration to his right buttock and abrasions to his right elbow.
Police allege he then hit a third cyclist, Mark Royle, on the same stretch of road in Roseville, this time causing abrasions to Mr Royle’s right hip and right elbow.
According to court documents, Healy then drove into Sydney’s inner suburbs, and allegedly hit a Mercedes C220 driven by Usama El Sayed Abdelgayd Younes in the M1 eastern distributor tunnel in Woolloomooloo at 9.36am.
Less than three minutes later, Healy allegedly hit a Land Rover Sport driven by Brian Freeman on Alison Rd, Kensington, before allegedly hitting a Subaru WRX driven by Timor Yakvlev near the corner of Alison Rd and Anzac Pde at 9.42am.
At 10am, Healy allegedly hit cyclist James Everett on Perry St Matraville, leaving him with injuries to his right elbow and buttocks.
Almost half-an-hour later, police allege Healy hit a Subura Forester driven by Gemma Sandford near the corner of Bridge Rd and Taylor St, Glebe, before a final incident on Epping Rd, Lane Cove, when Healy allegedly swerved and hit a Subaru Outback driven by Pamela Gilbert at 11.15am.
Police arrested Healy at 8.10am the next day at a petrol station on Castlereagh Rd, Penrith.
He was charged with predatory driving, driving while suspended, nine counts of driving recklessly/furiously in a dangerous manner, five counts of failing to stop and assist, four counts of not giving particulars to an injured person, and five counts of not giving particulars to another driver.
He will next appear in court on August 14.
