Jessica Fox has refused to rest on her Olympic laurels with the whitewater paddler from Sydney’s west again adding to her bulging trophy cabinet.

The Penrith paddler won the ICF canoe slalom World Cup K1 crown for 2021 in Pau, France, on the weekend.

It came in the same event Fox finished third in Tokyo after some heartbreaking mistakes in her race.

“I’m so happy with my racing this season,’’ said Fox, who still has the world championships to contest this international season.

“To win the overall crown is amazing. The overall is always a marker of consistency in the season.’’

PENRITH PADDLER JESS FOX BACK IN WINNERS CIRCLE

Australian paddling star Jessica Fox has stunned in her first C1 race as an Olympic champion.

Less than a month after winning the gold in the C1 racing at the Tokyo Olympics, Fox won a World Cup meet in the same event.

The win in early September followed on from Fox’s success in the K1 racing - the same event she won a bronze medal in at the Tokyo Games.

Fox secured the C1 gold from Czech Republic paddler Tereza Fišerová, who finished 6.32 seconds behind the Australian in the event in Spain.

Spain’s Nuria Vilarrubla won bronze.

When Jessica Fox’s mother and coach Myriam hugged her after she finished with a bronze in the K1 at the Olympics, the Penrith paddler could not stop crying.

Less than a month on, Fox was back to her winning ways in the discipline at a World Cup meet in Europe.

Fox, who went on to win the first C1 gold medal handed out to women in Tokyo, claimed a little slice of redemption with her win in the K1 at the World Cup in La Seu, Spain, on the weekend.

It was the eighth win in the kayak slalom event she had also hoped to dominate in Tokyo.

Fox, who opted against returning to Australia due to quarantine and the lack of competition, instead headed back to Europe to see out the international season.

“It’s always really challenging because the course is quite tricky and fiddly and I’ve never put down those amazing ones that I feel I’m capable of,” Fox said.

“So to do it today is really great.”

It was a good choice for the 27-year-old who showed she has carried superb from out of Tokyo with her 3.66 second victory over British Padula Mallory Franklin.
