Comanchero boss Ian Clissold – who once boasted he was the most dangerous criminal in Australia – is set to be released from prison after being sentenced for a “terrifying” tirade against his ex-partner.

The 57-year-old and master sergeant at arms of the Comanchero successfully appealed an 18-month jail sentence at Penrith District Court on Wednesday, telling the court he “clean up his act” and “stay away from bikie gangs”.

Clissold had pleaded guilty to stalk/intimidate, assault, destroy/damage property and contravening court orders in the Local Court, with court documents revealing he had subjected his ex-partner to controlling and threatening behaviour.

On one occasion, he threatened to kill the victim’s family and brought up his bikie links.

Early in their relationship Clissold had shown the woman photos from his 1999 manslaughter conviction when he and another bikie had been ordered to “discipline” fellow Comanchero Peter Ledger after a disagreement over a motorbike swap. The punishment had got out of hand and Ledger was killed.

Ian Clissold was convicted of assault, stalk/intimidate and destroy/damage property.

The court previously heard Clissold told the victim in August: “You’re not going anywhere before you f***ing tidy the house”.

He swung his motorcycle helmet at her before stopping just short of making physical contact and then left the house telling her “she could never leave.”

The court heard Clissold’s son believes his father has a “dated attitude” towards women.

She fled to Windsor police station after he left and Clissold was arrested and served with an apprehended domestic violence order.

Less than a month later he was in custody for breaching the order by making an abusive phone call to the woman, court documents said.

The court heard Clissold’s son had described his father as having a “dated attitude towards women and their place in the home and kitchen” and could benefit from both anger management and domestic violence programs.

Clissold’s lawyer said the bikie now had insight into his actions and wanted to “keep to himself”. The prosecutor disagreed and told the court Clissold had demonstrated limited remorse and hadn’t engaged in programs aimed at rehabilitating his behaviour.

Judge Sophie Beckett ultimately upheld the appeal and quashed the 18-month jail sentence – for which Clissold had served four months of – and sentenced the 57-year-old to a six-month intensive correction order and 12-month community correction order.

Clissold is also required to participate in programs to assist his anger management and domestic violence.
