George Danakis sentenced and convicted over break, enter, bestiality offences

A man who broke into a high school and had sex with two sheep and a goat while on an ice bender, told a doctor he was “attracted to women, but liked sheep on the side,” a court heard.

A man who broke into a high school’s milking shed and had sex with two sheep and a goat, had been awake ‘for five days’ after smoking ice, at the time, a court has heard.

George Danakis, 44 appeared to Penrith District Court after previously pleading guilty to destroy damage property, bestiality, possessing bestiality material, break and enter and possessing an unauthorised firearm.

According to agreed facts, in May 2022 teaching staff at St Marys High Schools in Sydney’s west, installed security cameras around their milking sheds over suspicion somebody had been breaking in after hours.

On May 6 Danakis was recorded herding two goats into a gated area. A week later, he was filmed walking around the milking shed naked from the waist down.

On May 18, police interrupted Danakis engaging in sexual intercourse with a male sheep while a female goat was observed on the ground appearing to be in shock, court documents state.

Upon being arrested Danakis told police he was in the school because he was looking for his phone and his pants were off because he was urinating in the shed.

A mobile phone belonging to Danakis was found in the sheep paddock on June 24, and was found to contain bestiality material and a photograph of Danakis holding a pump action shotgun, to which he did not hold a permit.

On Tuesday, a defence lawyer told the court Danakis’ methamphetamine use in the days prior to the offending, combined with his “sexual deviance”made him lose his inhibitions leading to “the state of the mind in which he did what he did,”

The court heard, since being charged Danakis had told a psychiatrist he was only attracted to animals when he was using ice, because the drug dramatically increase his sex drive.

According to his lawyer, Danakis told a psychiatrist that he was “pretty much into bestiality” after having seen it on the internet, and while he was attracted to women, he “liked sheep on the side,”

It was also heard Danakis had a diagnosis of schizophrenia, and had stopped taking medication in the weeks prior to offending, however it was agreed upon by both the crown and defence this was not a “causal” factor toward offending.

Rather the crown stated it his “paraphilic disorder” of attraction toward animals and his substance abuse as key factors in his offending.

In sentencing Judge Sophia Beckett remarked on the somewhat unusual nature of the matters and the limited amount of case law she could refer to.
