A former Sydney scout leader who molested five children in the 1980s and 1990s has been jailed for his horrific crimes.

Wayne Robert Hill, 64, sat in silence on the audiovisual screens of Penrith District Court on Friday as he was sentenced for the disgusting crimes he committed as a Scout leader, formerly known as Scout master, more than 40 years ago.

Judge Craig Everson sentenced Hill to an aggregate prison sentence of 10 years in jail with a non parole period of five years.

The court was told Hill had molested eight children between 1981 and 1994, all of which were members of the Scouts.

The details of Hill’s horrific actions against the children are too graphic and confronting to repeat, though the court was told Hill deliberately chose moments to abuse the children when they were alone.

Graphic details of Hill molesting multiple children were read to Penrith District Court.

During one such incident, Hill had led one child into the bush while on a camping trip however the child alerted someone to the horror unfolding by screaming.

Hill then tied the child to a termite mound and covered him in honey before leaving him there.

Hill was arrested in October 2023 and has remained in custody since.

The court was told Hill had also raped an 18-year-old girl in 2005, though she was never part of his Scouts group.

The law finally caught up with him when he was arrested on October 3, 2023. He has remained in custody since.

He was charged with rape, three counts of indecent assault, inciting aggravated indecency on a child under 16 under his authority and aggravated indecent assault of a child under 16.

The court was told Hill’s motive for the molestations were for his own sexual gratification.

He pleaded guilty to the offences in the local court before it progressed to the higher court for sentence.

The court heard Hill previously worked at North Sydney Council as a head ranger and left around the same time he left the Scouts to become a travelling salesman.

The court was told he was also “affiliated” with the Anglican Church in 2004, though explicit details of his role within the church were not shared in open court.

A report from a psychiatrist stated Hill had no cognitive issues but could very likely have a sexual interest disorder such as pedophilia.

The report also said he showed insight into his offending and acknowledged the distress and trauma he caused. He also described feeling guilt and shame for his actions.

Judge Craig Everson noted the amount of time between Hill molesting the children and his arrest.

With time already spent in custody, Hill will be eligible for parole on October 2, 2028.
