A popular Western Sydney eatery has revealed new plans for a multimillion-dollar proposal to build an expansive function centre at its bustling cafe and restaurant site.

The owners of Emu Hall have submitted plans for a stage two expansion — earmarking plans for a weekend function centre adjoining its current dining precinct on the banks of the Nepean River at Emu Plains.

Emu Hall will be expanded under a $2.6 million plan.

The proposed function centre is expected to be developed around the heritage listed stables structure, which will be redeveloped as part of a second storey bridal party room and back-of-house facilities.

“The function centre is to be reduced in size with a vestibule, back of house and meet and greet to the rear,” a planner for the $2.6 million expansion said. “The function centre is to have a wave style skillion roof supported by multiple angular columns with a glass curtain wall and sandstone base.”

According to the plans, the function centre will be in operation for ‘bookings only’ on Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 5pm to midnight.

Around 100 patrons are expected for events within the Emu Hall function space, with a limited capacity for the premises capped at 258 people.

A total of 12 extra jobs proposed for staff to run the venue.

In 2018, Penrith Council approved previous plans for a function centre to be developed at the cafe and restaurant hub, however, planners revised the proposal to “improve the heritage relationship between the function centre and Emu Hall”.

Plans for the project were submitted in May and will be determined by council planning staff.

The plan to expand the popular dining spot comes as Penrith Council submitted a $153,000 proposal for a cafe within Regatta Park’s revitalised pavilion this month, as part of the redevelopment of the River Rd precinct.

The cafe is expected to open between 7am and 4pm.

The final design for the Regatta Park precinct, prepared by McGregor Coxall in 2019, demonstrate how Council aspires to transform Regatta Park into a beautiful large green open recreational space that will bring extensive benefits to residents and visitors,” planners said.

“The upgrade of the river park plays an important role in realising the ambition to re-embrace the Nepean River as a significant open space asset.

“The development of a dining precinct is envisaged to increase visitation and utilisation of the Regatta Park precinct and the designs will need to ensure that the structure integrates with the broader river precinct masterplan.”

Meanwhile, construction is currently underway on the redevelopment of the historic nearby Police Cottage at Emu Plains, earmarked to be transformed into a “vibrant dining destination”.

Construction is expected to be completed at the Police Cottage late this year.
