A young mum, who police allege stabbed a man during a violent altercation at an Oxley Park apartment in March, is facing a string of serious charges.
Emily Jane Smith, 26, of Oxley Park, faced Magistrate Geoffrey Hiatt during a brief mention of her matter at Penrith Local Court on Friday.
She is charged with causing wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder, reckless grievous bodily harm in company, cause grievous bodily harm with intent, and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Charges of wound a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and reckless wounding in company were dropped by the DPP.
Police will allege that Smith and a co-accused, Ricky Oxley, 26, stabbed a 28-year-old man in the abdomen at a Braddon St unit at about 9.15pm on March 11.
The incident left the victim in an induced coma at Westmead Hospital, but he survived the ordeal.
During a bail hearing in March, Smith’s lawyer suggested a defence would rely on identification issues and self-defence.
Smith was originally refused bail by the Local Court, but was granted Supreme Court bail on April 7.
Oxley faces the same charges as Smith, and is also charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He remains bail refused over his alleged role in the incident.
Smith also successfully varied her bail conditions on Friday. She now has a curfew between 10pm and 4am and is allowed to attend licensed premises.
Both Smith and Oxley will return to Penrith Local Court on November 6.
