Edinglassie Aged Care home in Emu Plains will undergo a $36 million transformation.

Uniting Aged Care on Friday marked the start of construction for the redevelopment of Edinglassie, which will allow for a new individualised approach to aged care.

The nursing home was closed last year to prepare for the upgrade.

The project involves the construction of a 100-bed residential aged care home, with existing two- and four-bed shared rooms replaced by five households of 20 single rooms.

Uniting’s executive director, Tracey Burton, said the new home would deliver individualised care.

“This approach places more emphasis on the individual needs of residents as well as creating more homelike environments,” Ms Burton said.

“We want people to enjoy the things that are important to them, such as waking later and spending time in the garden.”

At Friday’s launch, residents, staff and executives of the facility helped in the laying of the concrete, as well as a ceremony to mark the occasion.

The new home is expected to open some time next year.

Ms Burton said the vision was for Edinglassie to provide better care for the ageing community.

“Our significant investment in the bricks and mortar of the new aged care home will enable us to continue to provide high-quality services and facilities that meet the needs of current and new residents well into the future,” Ms Burton said.

“The new aged care home has people at its heart, in how it has been designed and will be delivered.”
