A boozed up man damaged police cars with his bottles of VB and then asked for forgiveness in court telling a magistrate “it’s the first time I’ve been drunk at a police station”.

Kelly had been accompanying a friend who was visiting the station on the morning of October 22.

Two police cars were parked outside and Kelly was seen approaching one of them.

He then grabbed one of the car’s aerial, pulling it down and causing its metal mounting bracket to bend.

Kelly then walked towards the second car, which was unmarked, and sat on the bonnet.

He then began to yell, alerting officers in the station.

His associate then began yelling at station staff.

Kelly was arrested and became argumentative with police.

Appearing via AVL on November 26, Kelly expressed remorse saying “it’s the first time I’ve been drunk at a police station”.

But Magistrate Fiona Toose was not impressed.

“Mr Kelly, you’re on four rounds of parole. This is just appalling behaviour. You cannot go around damaging police cars.

“The alcohol may explain your behaviour but doesn’t excuse it. A message has to be sent that you cannot damage police property.”

Magistrate Toose suggested Kelly undergo counselling while in custody.

The court heard Kelly was hoping to spend Christmas with his child.

However, he was sentenced to six months prison.
