A driver has been fined over what police described as a “stupid act” on Roper Rd, Colyton.

A man was driving a Holden Commodore north at about 5.15pm on Monday when he allegedly tried to merge into a right turning lane and collided with the front of a truck.

As the car and the truck turned onto the M4, the car sped in front before braking several times in front of the truck, forcing the driver to brake heavily to avoid a collision.

Footage from the truck’s dashcam shows the driver of the car leaning out of his window to yell at the truck driver, causing him to almost crash into a concrete barrier.

Traffic and Highway Patrol were notified of the incident and commenced an investigation.

A 47-year-old Greystanes man was later issued fines of $1413 and given 11 demerit points for negligent driving, not turning right from a right lane, entering a marked lane without giving way, and having part of his body outside a window or door.

Commander of the state’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Michael Corboy, said the behaviour was dangerous and unacceptable.

“The heavy vehicle operator came straight to us with dashcam footage which clearly identifies not only what is a stupid act, but also clearly identifies the driver and the registration of his vehicle,” he said.

“Those that engage in this sort of high-risk behaviour should expect other road users to send their vision to us, where will take action to not only change driver behaviour, but to prosecute such drivers off our roads.

“With the road toll currently at 109 lives lost, this driver, and others, need to be doing more to keep us all safe on NSW roads.”
