The man accused of murdering Cranebrook woman Cheryl Ardler will face trial in the Supreme Court later this year.
Dennis Andrew French was charged with murder in April last year - almost eight years after the 41-year-old went missing.
Ms Ardler, 41, was last seen in an alleyway near a bus stop on Greenhalg Rd, Cranebrook, in early December, 2012.
She was reported missing by her family about six months later, after her family had not heard from her. At the time, they told police her disappearance was out of character.
Police offered a $100,000 reward – later increased to $750,000 – for information on her disappearance in 2015, and searched homes in Cranebrook and Villawood as part of investigations.
Her remains were found in bushland just streets away from the alley in May, 2018, by two teenagers who were foraging near Laycock St.
Police searched the bushland and found a number of items there were forensically examined.
Ms Ardler moved to Penrith from Brewarrina in 2010 after her partner of 18 years, Elwood Clarke, died of illness.
It was two years later that she began a relationship with French in 2012 and moved in with him. They had been together for more than six months before she disappeared.
French was committed for trial by Magistrate Geoffrey Hiatt at Penrith Local Court this morning.
He will be arraigned at the Supreme Court on July 3.
