A former Catholic schoolteacher facing child-sex accusations has walked from court a free man after all charges against him were dropped.
Andrew Lehmann, of Emu Plains, had one count of having unlawful sexual relations with a child under the age of 16, one count of indecent assault, and four counts of having sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 14 no-billed by Judge Jennifer English in Katoomba District Court on Monday.
To have a charge ‘no-billed’ means there will be no further proceedings in court.
After opening statements in the trial on October 21, the jury was discharged and the trial aborted the next day.
The defence then made an application to have a judge-alone trial on October 23, which was granted by Judge English despite the prosecution opposing the motion.
The charged were then dropped on Monday, and Lehmann’s previous bail was dispensed with.
Another hearing was held in Katoomba District Court on Wednesday to sort out court costs.
Lehmann had maintained his innocence on all accusations since his arrest in late 2018, and officially entered pleas of not guilty during his arraignment in Katoomba District Court on October 21.
Lehmann previously worked at the Holy Family Primary School in Emerton, the Holy Family Primary School in Luddenham, St Paul the Apostle Primary School in Winston Hills, and Our Lady of the Way Primary School in Emu Plains.
