BEING the first baby born at the “superpower” of Westmead Hospital still fills Bianca Brisbourne with pride.
BEING the first baby born at the “superpower” of Westmead Hospital still fills Bianca Brisbourne with pride.
“It’s something I’ve definitely been proud of; it’s a quirky little story that enriches the tapestry of your life,’’ she said.
“They’re an amazing superpower and medical facility.
“It’s mind-blowing and for Sydney to have a facility like that — it’s world class.”
Mrs Brisbourne (nee English) was born on April 10, 1979 in the maternity unit that opened five months after the main hospital.
Her mother Ann was due to give birth at Ryde Hospital but complications meant she was delivered at Westmead, where advanced services were available.
“It’s always a conversation starter. I definitely wouldn’t shy away from letting people know,’’ Mrs Brisbourne said.
Her siblings were also born at Westmead Hospital and Mrs Brisbourne has been invited to celebrate the landmark’s birthdays and doctors’ retirements since it opened — a gesture she has “been appreciative of and humbled by”.
On Saturday, Mrs Brisbourne, who now lives in Jindabyne, will join 40th birthday celebrations with a visit to the maternity ward and cake cutting with special guests.
The mother of two runs a consultation business and is a priority and time management coach.
