“Can you tell me how the proposal is going to benefit the citizens of Wentworthville rather than benefiting the residents of this proposed building?”
That’s the question Cumberland Local Planning Panel member Allan Ezzy asked a town planner before it approved an 11-storey apartment tower with 90 units on a corner block at Wentworthville last week.
The proposal for 55-57 Station St and 6 Pritchard St East would include a gym on the ground floor and is part of the Wentworthville Town Centre planning proposal.
Urbis town planner Sophy Purton said the developer would dedicate a portion of the site to expand Friend Park, which would link residents with Wentworthville Mall when it is redeveloped.

“This would increase the size of Friend Park by approximately 60 per cent,’’ she said.
The proposal was first presented to the council in July 2017 and is 41m tall, which prompted concern from a panel member about its impact on the park.
However, the plan will now proceed to the Planning Department but only after it recommended advising the council about boundary setbacks be created.
A 40-place childcare centre is also under construction at Friend Park, where it is expected to open in early 2020.
The $1.8 million project will increase its capacity by 24 places and include outdoor playground.
In the same meeting, the panel also recommended the council proceed with the
Wentworthville Town Centre plans following the conclusion of community consultation this year.
