Four of western Sydney’s best poets explore the blurred lines between truth and fiction in the 21st century in a performance coming to Parramatta.
Part of All Day YA, Sydney Writers Festival’s Young Adult program, Dy (STOP)ia is a spoken word theatre show featuring Ali Al Haj, Aishah Ali, Pola Fanous and Rameen Hayat.
Set in a dystopian future, the storytellers embark on a journey into the truth, playing with perspectives and considering what the future could look like.
All Day YA on May 4 has a wide-ranging program that also includes discussions on inclusiveness, diversity and representation, and love letters to fandoms.
Avid readers can get the inside scoop on the most exciting YA releases direct from publishers, and hear from some of the biggest names in the YA community like Rebecca Tinoco, Catriona Feeney and Alison Elzayed.
Joining the program will be international writers Dhonielle Clayton, Mackenzi Lee, and Neal and Jarrod Shusterman, plus a stack of Australian writers including Lili Wilkinson, Jenna Guillaume, Sarah Ayoub and Felicity Castagna.
The Sydney finals of the Australian Poetry Slam Youth will also be held on Saturday night, where performers aged 12-18 have three minutes to wow the crowd with stories, monologues, raps, rants and poems.
The festival’s broader program also includes a performance by Auburn Poets and Writers Group at Auburn Town Hall on May 1, and an immersive art experience from the Finishing School Collective at Parramatta Artists Studios on May 2.
A range of authors will also give talks at libraries across Sydney’s west as part of the festival, including Matthew Condon, Richard Glover, Jeff Sparrow, and award-winning Hills maths teacher Eddie Woo.
