Sydney drug bust: 290 cannabis plants seized in city’s west

Six people have been charged after police allegedly seized 290 cannabis plants and $105,000 cash during raids across Sydney.

Police have seized 290 cannabis plants worth an estimated street value of $1 million from homes in Guildford, Mount Pritchard and Dundas.

The huge haul was uncovered during a series of raids police conducted on Wednesday.

More than $105,000 in cash, a stun gun, MDMA, cocaine and 17 kilograms of cannabis was also seized.

Six people have been charged and were refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.

Tran Ngo, 26, was arrested at Gledswood Hills and charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Trien Van Tran, 27, and 33-year-old Duong Nguyen – and a 35-year-old woman, Chau Kim Hoang, were arrested at Mount Pritchard and all charged with knowingly take part in the cultivation of a commercial quantity of a prohibited plant.

A 38-year-old man, Khanh Loc Tran, was arrested at Canley Vale and charged with four counts of supply prohibited drug, cultivate prohibited plant, knowingly take part in the cultivation of a commercial quantity of a prohibited plant, possess or use a prohibited weapon with permit, possess prohibited drug and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

Thi Kim Kieu Huynh, 41, was arrested at Dundas and charged with knowingly take part in the cultivation of a commercial quantity of a prohibited plant.

All were remanded in custody and refused bail except for Ms Hoang whose case will return to court at Parramatta Local Court on July 29.

The court heard the single mother must report to Fairfield police station daily and post a $10,000 surety.

“She’s not done anything wrong before in her life,’’ Magistrate Andrew George said.

Mr Ngo and Trien Van Tran’s cases were adjourned to Fairfield Court on June 17, Mr Nguyen and Ms Hoang to Liverpool Court on August 2, and Khanh Loc Tran at Parramatta Local Court on July 29.
