A BMW driver charged with street racing after a car split in half is accused of fleeing the scene while a man was trapped inside his vehicle.

A driver who allegedly raced a luxury car down a street in Sydney’s west before another vehicle crashed into a power pole and split in half will fight multiple charges.
Patrick Tye, 56, was allegedly racing his BMW M140 car down South St at Rydalmere on Sunday, September 8 when a car crashed into the pole shortly after 10.30am.
The 22-year-old driver was trapped before emergency services personnel released him and rushed him to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Ryde police and Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit inquiries led to the arrest of Tye a day later at Parramatta police station.
His licence was suspended and he was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact occasioning grievous bodily harm and organising, promoting or taking part in a race between vehicles.
Tye, of Northmead, was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday where he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Police allege in court documents that Tye knew the car had been “involved in an impact occasioning grievous bodily harm” and he “failed to stop and give any assistance that may be necessary and in his power to give”.
Under his bail conditions, he must report to the police station on Mondays, and is forbidden from entering any international airport or other point of departure from Australia.
A surety of $5000 was posted.
He will return to court on November 20.
