Rosehill Gardens: Pink Fashion Lunch to raise funds for McGrath Foundation

Breast cancer care advocate Tracy Bevan used to love going to Royal Ascot with her late bestie Jane McGrath. Now she’s using a day at the races to raise funds in her honour.

Breast cancer campaigner Tracy Bevan loved going to Royal Ascot with her late best friend Jane McGrath, who died of the disease in 2008.

“It was always such a special event and I always loved seeing what everyone, from the Queen and the royal family, to all the attendees, were wearing,’’ she said.

Ms Bevan struck up a friendship with Jane through cricket when her now ex-husband Michael played with Jane’s partner, Glenn McGrath, for Australia.

She is now the director of the McGrath Foundation Board and is passionate about raising funds for breast care nurses.

On Saturday, March 14, fun and fashion will mix with philanthropy at the Pink Fashion Lunch at Rosehill Gardens.

Racegoers are encouraged to wear pink and help the McGrath Foundation fund 120 more nurses (there are currently 135) to ensure families experiencing breast cancer have access to vital services.

“Jane always said that if we could help just one family, then it would all be worth it,’’ Ms Bevan said.

“We’ve now supported over 75,000 families since 2005 but we know we still have a long way to go to ensure every family can access a McGrath breast care nurse.”

As well as raising “as much money as possible through this wonderful event’’ she anticipates the fun of going to the races.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone dressed in pink, having fun and raising funds for a great cause,’’ she said.

“Luckily I’ve got a lot to choose from as three-quarters of my wardrobe is pink.

“I really love music so I’m also excited to see Samantha Jade’s performance and Colin Fassnidge has created a special menu for us so I can’t wait to try it.

“I certainly attended my fair share of race days when I was younger but once my girls were born, I found my spare time dwindled.

“My girls are now out of their teens so it’s great to be able to get back to the races.”
