A KANGAROO has been hopping around Greystanes, astonishing residents.
Sightings of the suburban skippy, believed to be an eastern grey, have flooded social media.
The friendly kangaroo has even come up to the front porch of the Psarianos family’s house in Oldfield St.
Elizabeth Psarianos said her father Anthony was amazed to open the front door at 6am last week and encounter the marsupial.
“My father thought he was seeing things,” Ms Psarianos said.
Other residents have reported seeing the lost kangaroo around the intersection of Merrylands Rd and busy Gipps Rd and there have been sightings in Canal Rd and several blocks away at the industrial estate of Tarlington Place, Smithfield.
According to some locals, it may have escaped from the Grey Box Reserve parkland.
Nobody believed Lisa Miralles when she told them she had seen a big roo out the front of her workplace a few Saturdays ago.
A few streets away from the other sightings, in the industrial zone of Tarlington Place, she had just popped in around noon to drop off some brochures and was all alone when it turned up on the driveway.
“It gave me a terrible fright,” Ms Miralles said.
“It came up to my shoulders. I’ve seen brown snakes before but never a kangaroo.”
Holroyd Mayor Greg Cummings advised residents to contact WIRES, the wildlife rescue service, if they spotted the kangaroo.
“There are remnants of the Cumberland Plains forest there, and there’s bushland along the canal system, so there are places where they can come from,” Cr Cummings said.
WIRES advises not to approach wild kangaroos and phone them on 1300 094 737.
