Australian Venue Co is planning to transform the elegant Westpac bank building in the heart of Parramatta’s CBD into a boutique hospitality drawcard with chic restaurants and a rooftop bar.
Property developer Holdmark – the group bringing Parramatta’s first five-star hotel, the InterContinental – is behind the project which AVC will operate as part of its growing portfolio of establishments that include The Winery at Surry Hills, Bungalow8 and The Loft at Barangaroo and Kingsleys Woolloomooloo.
While the bulk of its Sydney venues are in the CBD, Darling Harbour and the northern beaches, Parramatta will be new territory for AVC when it occupies the sandstone property at the corner of Church and George streets.
The interwar building was constructed in 1938 with imposing columns, and was the former Bank of NSW and later Westpac.
It is understood the venue will have restaurants over four split levels.
The project is also another item on the plate for Holdmark, which opened the $125m 13-storey retail and office building called 85 Macquarie St, in May.
The landmark neighbours Holdmark’s Quad development which is earmarked as another culinary hub thanks to celebrated KOI Dessert Bar and Ippudo Japanese ramen restaurant due to bolster Parramatta’s foodie delights.
Australian Venue Co declined to comment but it is understood a development application will be submitted to Parramatta Council soon.
