Police are yet to lay charges following the death of a man who died after a daylight assault in Parramatta’s CBD in January.

Blacktown man and Indian national Parminder Singh, 46, was assaulted near Westfield at Church St on Tuesday January 23 after he visited the library at Phive to study English so he could secure permanent residency in Australia.

One of his sisters, Ruby Kaur, said her brother, who worked at Woolworths, was riding a bicycle he had lent from a man in Parramatta before he was pushed in an unprovoked attack near Fitzwilliam St.

Punjaban said her brother was riding the bike on the footpath between 3.50pm and 4.30pm when an unknown man pushed him, causing blunt injuries to his chest.

“After a few minutes of (the) attack he got uneasy and fell down unconsciously,’’ she said.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said investigators had been informed the 46-year-old man was riding a pushbike along Fitzwilliam St when he became involved in an altercation with a 34-year-old man not known to him at 3.52pm.

“It will be alleged that the older man walked into Church St where at 4.10pm he reportedly collapsed where an ambulance arrived at the location at 4.29pm and paramedics performed CPR.’’

Detectives established a crime scene on the corner of Church and Fitzwilliam streets where CCTV was seized and spoke to several people.

Ruby, with whom Mr Singh lived, said police also told the family her brother suffered internal bleeding.

Speaking from Punjab, India, where she returned to spread her brother’s ashes, she said he was a quiet man.

“He was a very gentle man,’’ she said.

“He was reserved in nature and he was hardworking and punctual.

“He would never talk to anyone. He was a very reserved person at home and outside. He loved his own company.’’

Police are urging anyone who may have information about the matter – or any available mobile phone/dashcam footage – to contact Parramatta police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
