Teen arrested over alleged connection to 10 western Sydney armed robberies

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested over an alleged connection to a string of robberies at gun point that left victims terrified across western Sydney in a two-week crime spree.

A teenage boy has been arrested and an accomplice is on the run after a string of 10 armed robberies across Sydney’s west.

Detectives from Strike Force Rigil arrested the 16-year-old at his Greystanes home at 8am on Friday in connection with the robberies, which involved in two stolen cars.

Police have alleged two people were involved in the robberies from 5am on Friday, May 10, until 10.30pm on May 27.

About 5am on May 10, two males driving a stolen Mazda CX 5 stopped in front of a 42-year-old woman on Bridge Rd at Westmead.

It was alleged the men, including the 16 year old, jumped out of the car and threatened the woman with a knife before stealing her handbag. The car was later found on Charles St at Liverpool.

Two days later at 1am on Sunday, May 12, an Audi Q5 SUV was stolen from a home in South Wentworthville. About 4am the next day, a 53-year-old man was walking on Bungaree Rd, Toongabbie, when the Audi SUV pulled in front of him, threatening him before stealing his bag.

Shortly after, the males allegedly stopped in front of a 29-year-old man on Marsden St, Parramatta, and assaulted him before stealing his bag.

Not three hours later at 4.20am, the Audi stopped in front of a 43-year-old woman on Hassall St, Parramatta, where the two men threatened her with a knife, before stealing her handbag.

In the next 20 minutes the robbers had assaulted a 59-year-old woman on Coleman St at Merrylands, a 53-year-old man on Alexandra Ave at Westmead and a 60-year-old on Isabella St at North Parramatta.

After the rampage in the SUV, police found the car abandoned at Greystanes the next day.

A week following the first crime spree, the duo picked up again, stealing a Toyota Kluger SUV and assaulting a 46-year-old woman on Argyle St at Parramatta at 8.50pm.

This was followed by a robbery where the gun was used as a weapon to hit a 29-year-old woman on the head in Junia Ave, Toongabbie, and a police chase through Burnett St at Merrylands.

Strike Force Rigil made the arrest and have taken the teen into Granville police station where he is assisting them with their inquiries into the second person involved in the crime spree.
