Jared Morse arrested at Oatlands after allegedly possessing child abuse material

A man who allegedly possessed a large quantity of child abuse material was arrested in an affluent northwest Sydney suburb after a tip off from Queensland police. Watch footage of the arrest.

Sex crimes squad detectives have charged a 44-year-old man with alleged child abuse material offences following a referral from Queensland police.

Detectives conducted extensive inquiries and swooped on a property at Oatlands about 6am on Thursday when police seized electronic devices.

Jared Spencer Morse was arrested at the scene and was taken to Parramatta Police Station, where he was charged with using a carriage service to make available child abuse and possessing child abuse data-use carriage service.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Friday.

Police alleged Morse possessed a significant amount of child abuse material and accessed child abuse material on an international online platform.

He was refused bail. He was subsequently refused bail again in court after it heard Morse would pose an unacceptable risk to commit a serious offence, interfere with witnesses or evidence and endanger the safety of alleged victims and the community.

The case was adjourned to September 12.

Morse was arrested under Strike Force Trawler, an ongoing investigation by the sex crime squads Child Exploitation Internet Unit into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.
