It’s been called “foul”, “pungent” and “overwhelming”, but now there’s an answer to the strange smell emanating from Parramatta’s Woolworths Metro store. If you’ve journeyed passed the newly built store at the entrance to Parramatta train station, you would have been met with the distinct sewage odour, not even the bunches of flowers at the front have been enough to mask the stench, which has now been revealed as a plumbing leakage.
A statement by a Woolworths spokesman said: “our new Parramatta Metro [store] experienced plumbing issues which caused minor flooding within the store.”
The pipes, which caused the flooding, were in the stores refrigeration units right through the store. The blockage itself was under the floor in the stores back-of-house area.
The flooding has been said to have caused the lingering smell, which has been bothering staff and customers for more than a week.
The store opened on December 13 last year, with the spokesman assuring customers that the problem has now been “rectified”.
“The issue was repaired shortly after the incident occurred. Additionally, the store was commercially cleaned,” the spokesman said.
